Serco awarded $22.7M contract to support deployable medical systems

Serco Inc., a provider of professional, technology, and management services, announced the Company has been awarded a re-compete contract to support the Navy Expeditionary Medical Support Command (NEMSCOM) and its Deployable Medical Systems.  Serco will provide deployable medical systems solutions to enable medical personnel to provide world-class healthcare to meet warfighter and humanitarian requirements in almost any operating environment across the globe. The five year contract has a one-year base period and four one-year option periods, with a value of $22.7 million, if all options are exercised.

Under the contract, Serco is responsible for assembling, preparing and refurbishing new and used Deployable Medical Systems (DEPMEDS).  These units are 10-bed to 150-bed deployable hospitals that are fully self-contained and are the equivalent to state-of-the-art hospitals. Each unit includes equipment such as Computerized Tomography (CT) scanners and X-ray machines, along with the latest IT capabilities, allowing the units to transmit scans, pictures and results to medical specialists around the United States. 

Serco was awarded the original contract in 2009. The Company's work on this project has allowed NEMSCOM to provide urgent medical care anywhere in the world, at a moment's notice.  Significant deployments included the shipping of an Expeditionary Medical Facility to Haiti following the earthquake in 2010 and in support of the Super Trident Arch operation in 2013, a global operation of prepositioning or delivering Expeditionary Medical Facilities to specific regions in support of the Combatant Commander's Area of Responsibility.
