Serco Germany has signed a framework agreement for the EPS & EPS-SG Analyst and Controller Service at EUMETSAT, the European operational satellite agency for monitoring weather, climate and the environment from space. The contract is valued at more than €20m over a six-year period.
Serco is leading an industrial consortium providing EUMETSAT with a managed service operated by a team of analysts and controllers in charge of controlling the EUMETSAT Polar System and EUMETSAT Polar System-Second Generation satellite family, which represents the new generation of polar-orbiting weather satellites. By providing this service, Serco will make sure that the European and non-European weather forecast community receives reliable and uninterrupted data from these satellites.
Islam Alizada, Contract Manager at Serco Germany, explained: “EPS Second Generation missions will globally provide the weather prediction, air quality forecast, sea surface temperature and many other value added information which will contribute to understanding how our Earth climate is changing. Our involvement, with my most talented teams being the ones taking care of the real-time satellite operations, makes me feel really proud.”
Nathalie Rooth, General Manager of Serco Germany, said: “I am thrilled that our EPS & EPS-SG Analyst and Controller Service at EUMETSAT supports our customer in its mission to continue meteorological observations from the polar orbit. Our service is built upon the clear understanding of our customer’s mission requirements, coupled with best practices from our vast capabilities in satellites real-time operations. Combining our high standard operational services with the innovative instruments flown on the Metop-SG spacecraft supports EUMETSAT in bringing its European contribution to the Joint Polar System. Our teams can be very proud of the great work and commitment they demonstrate.”
