The past few months have been very busy for our space teams as they have been attending most of the key industry conferences, maintaining a strategic overview of the ever-evolving global space landscape, and establishing new connections with customers and peers. We are expecting an active and exciting year ahead of us in terms of attending key industry and academia events, which will further expand our network within the buzzing space industry.


EUMETSAT Meteorological Satellite Conference 2023

What: A key annual event for the meteorological and scientific communities where participants from around the world can meet to share their experience and knowledge during plenary, poster and workshop sessions. The theme was “The Evolutionary challenge for EO satellites from technology to exploitation”.

When: 11-15 September 2023

Toulouse Space Week

What: This was the first edition of the event, which is aimed at encouraging the acceleration of programmes, share solutions and networking with peers.

European Space Power Conference (ESPC) 2023

What: The ESPC is organised every three years and is a major international forum covering all aspects from the most relevant topics of electrical power for space applications, such as power management and distribution, solar generators and energy storage.

When: 2-6 October 2023

Where: Elche /Alicante, Spain

Our Power Lab Team attended the event and also had the honour to present a paper on “High-precision coulometry used in combination with X-ray imaging and spectroscopy for rapid assessment of lithium-ion batteries fade behaviour”. It was also a great opportunity for us to learn about the latest technologies and network with colleagues from the space power community.

Big Data From Space 2023 (#BiDS23) Conference

What: The event brings together key actors from industry, academia, EU entities and government to reveal user needs, exchange ideas and showcase latest technical solutions and applications touching all aspects of space and big data technologies.

When: 6-9 November 2023

Where: Vienna, Austria

Our Space Business Development Manager Alexis Longuet presented and provided mentoring to the participants at the "Ideating the Impact of DestinE: a collaborative design session" challenge organised by ESA DestinE Core Service Platform Use Cases project (DEUC).

Dubai Airshow 2023

What: The largest and best edition of the Dubai Airshow took place this year and gathered key players from the aerospace and defence industry.

When: 13-17 November 2023

Where: Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Our team was actively participating in several discussions at the Airshow. Head of Space for Serco Middle East  Amar Vora joined Starburst Aerospace to discuss how space technologies shape industries on earth and participated in another panel discussion on the topic of investing in space, where he stressed the importance of the space industry in the region. He posited: "Every company and every government agency needs to adopt their own space strategy to better understand the benefits that space can bring for them."

2nd Destination Earth User eXchange

What: The event offered a forum for exchanges among the Destination Earth (DestinE) stakeholders. The DestinE initiative aims to create a digital model of the Earth that will be used to monitor the effects of natural and human activity on our planet, anticipate extreme events and adapt policies to climate-related challenges. Serco is leading the consortium in charge of implementing the DestinE Core Service Platform (DESP): an open, flexible, and secure cloud-based computing system that will provide evidence-based decision-making tools, applications, and services.

When: 13-14 November 2023

Where: Bonn, Germany

Our team participated at an interactive exchange session about the DESP functionalities titled "From Vision to Implementation: Unravelling DESP". We also presented our co-authored DESP paper poster, which gave us the chance to speak about the platform vision, objectives, and framework solution, as well as about the onboarding in the service platform.

Space Tech Expo Europe

What: Europe’s largest B2B event for the space industry, showcasing the latest from technical designers, sub-system suppliers, manufacturers and components through the systems integrators for civil, military, and commercial space.

When: 14-16 November 2023

Where: Bremen, Germany

It was a splendid opportunity for Serco to discuss partnering and business opportunities where we could provide operational support to start-ups and NewSace companies.

UK Space Conference

What: The UK Space Conference is a significant biennial event for the UK Space sector. The event unites the UK and international space communities, such as government, industry, and academia. The conference provides a platform for the space sector to exchange ideas, plans, and partnerships that encourage development and success in the emerging space age.

When: 21-23 November 2023

Where: Belfast, UK

Our UK and Europe teams joined forces at the Serco stand at the event. We also had the honour of being part of a panel discussion. Our Strategic Account Director for our UK & Europe Defence business Allen Antrobus discussed with other industry experts "The Impact of Ukraine on Space".

Commenting on the panel, Allen said “I was delighted to chair the session on the impact of Ukraine on Space, it was great to interact with AVM Paul Godfrey, Mrs Della Granville, Mr Volodymyr Levykin and Maj Jeremy Grunert. We covered a huge amount in a short period of time and thanks to the UK Space Conference 2023 for setting up this fantastic event.”
