Growing People, Building Confidence: Learning at Serco in Europe

At Serco in Europe, learning is not a side project. It is part of how we deliver essential services, how we grow as colleagues, and how we earn trust every day. Our first pan-European training programme, launched in 2025, showed the appetite across our teams for development, connection and growth.

The work is led by our Talent, Learning & Development team, headed by Maurizia Walzthöny. Their mission is simple: make learning practical, accessible and inspiring for everyone at Serco.

Making learning part of everyday life

We believe leaders are not just here to manage. They are here to develop people. That’s why we invest in programmes that build confidence, strengthen teams and connect colleagues across borders and sectors. From immigration to space, defence to European institutions, the skills we build together shape how we deliver for millions of citizens.

Learning is rooted in the realities of our work. Welcome Days help new joiners feel part of Serco from the start. We offer specialised courses on key topics such as change management and mental health. Our mentoring programme connects colleagues across Europe, breaking down silos and encouraging the exchange of experience.

A diverse team, a shared purpose

Our Talent, Learning & Development team brings together 13 colleagues, from diverse backgrounds and languages, based across four countries: Belgium, Italy, Germany, and Switzerland . They reflect the diversity of Serco, ORS, and European Homecare, united by a clear focus on inclusion and impact. This means opening leadership to more women, fostering generational diversity, and designing training that makes a tangible difference.
