Paola Martins Seeger: Driving quality and continuous improvement for Serco at the European Laboratory for Particle Physics (CERN)

At the heart of CERN's pursuit to uncover the mysteries of the universe lies an intricate web of professionals, each playing a vital role in maintaining the laboratory's cutting-edge equipment and standards.

Among these dedicated individuals is Paola Martins Seeger, a remarkable Serco colleague who plays an important role ensuring the highest levels of quality and continuous improvement for Serco at CERN.

Paola's unwavering commitment and exceptional skill set have made her an invaluable asset to the Serco team working at the CERN, propelling her towards a new role of Contract Manager. Let's delve deeper into Paola's journey and the significant impact she has made for both Serco and CERN.

Unveiling the Marvels of Particle Physics

With its mission to unravel the secrets of the universe, CERN, the European Laboratory for Particle Physics, conducts ground-breaking research in fundamental physics. Central to their endeavours is the iconic LHC (Large Hadron Collider), the world's most powerful particle accelerator. Spanning an impressive 27-kilometer circumference, the LHC relies on superconducting magnets and advanced accelerating structures to propel particles towards unprecedented energy levels.

The optimal functioning of every piece of equipment at CERN is vital for researchers to carry out their pioneering work. For the past 25 years, Serco has proudly provided support services to CERN including engineering support and maintenance for the accelerator, experiments and cryogenic installations.

Paola is one of the amazing and talented colleagues Serco can count on to deliver superb services to our customer. As a Quality and Continuous Improvement Manager for Serco at the CERN, Paola plays an important role in ensuring the cryogenic materials remain in peak condition, guaranteeing an optimal research environment for the scientific community.

Paola's Journey of Excellence and bright future

Paola's role as Quality and Continuous Improvement Manager is multifaceted and greatly contributes to CERN's operations. She oversees the implementation and maintenance of global quality systems, monitors key performance indicators, conducts audits, and provides support to the production teams. Paola's expertise extends beyond quality management, as she also assists the Contract Manager in operational, budgetary, and commercial aspects. Her dedication and commitment to excellence have earned her the trust and respect of her colleagues.

Originally from Brazil, Paola's journey to Serco and CERN showcases her exceptional drive and determination as she had to face barriers entering the European job market. Armed with a degree in industrial engineering, Paola ventured into the world of entrepreneurship, co-founding the i9 Liga de Empreendedorismo, a renowned non-profit Entrepreneurship Club in Brazil.

In 2018, Paola and her husband embarked on a new chapter in France. Despite the language barrier, she pursued a master's degree in industrial engineering in Grenoble, simultaneously completing a specialised program in operations management. The job search proved to be a daunting task for Paola, particularly as a foreigner in a new country.

However, her perseverance paid off when Serco recognised her exceptional skills and offered her a position in May 2020. Paola's gratitude towards Serco and her managers is evident, as they have been supportive and understanding, helping her navigate personal and professional changes. After just two years at Serco, Paola's positive impact on Serco and the customer has led to an exciting opportunity for career advancement. Her transition into the role of Contract Manager stands as a testament to the trust and confidence Serco has placed in her.

Driving Diversity and Inclusion (D&I)
