Serco wins award for project management at Fiona Stanley Hospital

Published: 14 Aug 2014

Serco’s team at Fiona Stanley Hospital has been honoured with an Australian Business Award for Project Management.

The Australian Business Award for Project Management recognises organisations that have achieved outstanding results through excellence in project management.

In a three year pre-commissioning and transition period, Serco has been responsible for planning, designing and delivering the hospital’s non-clinical services; working with clinicians to identify, tender and procure all of the equipment required by the hospital; designing, procuring and installing the hospital’s high specification ICT infrastructure; and recruiting the hospital’s almost 1000-strong non-clinical workforce.

Since handover by the hospital builder in December 2013, Serco has been providing 13 non-clinical services. Serco’s remaining 13 non-clinical services will commence operation in the lead up to the hospital’s opening in October 2014.

Serco Transition Director for Fiona Stanley Hospital, Joe Boyle, is delighted to see the team’s significant efforts recognised:

“Serco was appointed by the Western Australian Government in July 2011 to design and deliver 26 non-clinical services at the new Fiona Stanley Hospital. These services range from cleaning, catering and sterilisation, to the development and management of the hospital’s advanced IT infrastructure and all key technology such as audio visual systems and bedside patient entertainment systems.

“This appointment required Serco to work in strong partnership with WA Health, who will be delivering the clinical services, to design and implement innovative and integrated technology and solutions. These integrated services will benefit patients for generations to come.

“The strong project management disciplines that we have implemented within Serco’s team at Fiona Stanley Hospital have been a major contributor to our success over the past three years of the project.

“Serco’s team is delighted to have been appointed as a winner of this prestigious award.”

Serco Asia Pacific’s Chief Executive Officer, Mark Irwin, said:

“I have watched our team in Western Australia achieve ground breaking innovation and integration with the services they have designed. This award demonstrates that the project is esteemed by their industry professionals. We are looking forward to the future and helping to care for the people of Western Australia.”
