Preparing Defence personnel for the most demanding scenarios they will face
Serco provide a range of fully accredited training to the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) and the Royal New Zealand Navy (RNZN), delivering courses that support the attainment of nationally recognised qualifications. We provide cost effective solutions that meet the unique needs of military operations, utilising immersive and simulation technology to replicate real-life situations and prepare senior military leaders through to front-line personnel for the most demanding scenarios they will face.
By leveraging our global capabilities, Serco collaborates with industry leaders to deliver innovative training solutions. Our approach combines cutting-edge technology, global insights, and validated methodologies. We continuously monitor, evaluate, and improve training effectiveness to ensure naval officers are well-prepared for an uncertain strategic environment.
Serco has been supporting the RAN by training young Maritime Warfare Officers in ship operations, bridge operations and navigation in a simulated war fighting environment since 2012. We have also been providing maintenance and engineering design services to the Training Authority Maritime Warfare (TAMW) at HMAS Watson since 2003.
With a combined service history spanning the RAN, RNZN, and Royal Navy (RN), our experienced staff rigorously test personnel using simulator and synthetic systems. We focus on Warfare Mastery and a positive student experience to support the TAMW in producing qualified and resilient naval officers.
In New Zealand Serco provide high-quality simulator-based bridge warfare training and support services on behalf of the RNZN at Devonport Naval Base, HMNZS Philomel.
Through the operation of the RNZN’s Bridge Simulators, we have been training young Bridge Warfare Officers in ship operations, bridge operations and navigation in a simulated war fighting environment since 2020 and delivered over 3,700 hours of simulation-based training.
Serco has proudly worked in partnership with the RNZN over the past next four years to develop training systems, solutions and courseware that has enabled 47 officers to learn both theoretical and practical skills critical to their specialisation as Bridge Warfare Officers, Navigating Officers and Commanding Officers.

Our training team members are all former service men and women who have served with the RAN, the RNZN or the RN. Their collective experience and enthusiasm for delivering premier training, mentoring and support to students, and forward-leaning innovation ensures Maritime Warfare Officers graduate with the mission critical skills needed to fight and win at sea.
Together, our training and technical teams provide an integrated delivery of professional services to the Commonwealth that actively contribute to the preparedness of Australian Defence Force’s maritime warfare community.
Our people
Proudly supporting Veterans, Reservists and Defence Family Members

We have been a platinum pledge partner to Solider On since 2018 and will continue to help secure the future of veterans and their families in 2024 and beyond.
“We recognise the immense value veterans bring to our team, and in partnering with organisations such as Solider On we show are dedication to fostering an inclusive environment where veterans are set up for success,” Serco Defence Managing Director Clint Thomas AM, CSC, said.
In 2022 we established our Veteran, Reservist and Defence family Members Advisory Committee (VRFAC). The committee aims to further strengthen our commitments to this very important group of employees by looking at a range of projects and initiatives to further enhance and develop our veterans. The first initiative formed was SercoVets.
The SercoVets community gives those veterans, family or allies an opportunity for engagement and collaboration with others who share a passion for veterans and veterans' initiatives. Veterans and reservists bring knowledge, experience, skills, clearances and a strong work ethic necessary to help us and our customers be successful on our important programs.
