Latest innovations in deployable healthcare on display at AMMA

Published: 11 Oct 2018

Visitors to this year’s Australasian Military Medicine Association (AMMA) Conference in Canberra will have the opportunity to get up close and personal with the latest innovations in deployable health solutions, as Serco showcases its expertise in scalable healthcare.

The evolution of military healthcare is the theme for the 2018 AMMA Conference, held at the Canberra National Convention Centre from 12-14 October. On display during the two-day event will be a virtual walk-through of Serco’s deployable healthcare facility, as well the ZOLL Propaq® MD, an ultra-lightweight, airworthy monitor and defibrillator specially designed to meet the needs of the military and air medical operations in treating critical patients in the field.

Serco is a key sponsor of the event, which brings together professionals and academics from military medicine and related sectors.

Serco has more than 50 years’ experience in providing critical support services to defence forces around the globe. Serco’s strategic alliance with market-leading deployable healthcare providers delivers capability for the Australian Defence Force to rapidly respond wherever scalable healthcare is needed: overseas, in remote areas or for local emergencies. Under the alliance, Serco Australia will deliver integrated logistics management solutions, while strategic partners Global Defence Solutions and GE Healthcare will provide world-leading shelter innovations and medical technologies.

Serco has worked with Dr Paul Alexander, former ADF Commander Joint Health and Surgeon General, to develop its solution. Dr Alexander’s extensive experience and medical knowledge, together with Serco’s local and international experience in integrated logistics management, base operations support and deployable healthcare, has allowed the company to meet the significant current and future needs of Australian Defence personnel. Serco is pleased that Dr Alexander will be on hand at the AMMA conference and will introduce the keynote speaker, Major General, Elizabeth Cosson AM CSC when the event opens on Friday.

Since 2009, Serco has provided deployable medical solutions to the United States Government under the Navy Expeditionary Medical Support Command (NEMSCOM) contract. Significant deployments include the shipping of an Expeditionary Medical Facility to Haiti following the earthquake in 2010, and the delivery of Operation Trident Arch in 2013, a global operation which saw the rotation of four DEPMEDS to three different preposition sites.

In Australia, Serco provides logistics support for more than 100 Australian Defence Force bases and barracks, despatching 10,000 consignments and maintaining 30,000 pieces of medical equipment each year. Throughout the Middle East Region, Serco delivers a broad range of logistics and base support services to ensure the critical effectiveness of ADF missions within the region.

Managing Director of Serco Defence, Clint Thomas AM CSC, said the AMMA Conference provided a great opportunity for delegates to hear from a range of academic, scientific and professional presenters about recent advancements and innovations in military health.
