Serco announces fourth Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP)

Published: 28 May 2024

Serco is proud to announce the launch of our fourth Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) 2024-2027, during National Reconciliation Week, reinforcing our commitment to supporting positive outcomes for First Nations peoples, communities, and organisations.

In late 2023, Serco were awarded the status of Stretch RAP which was developed under Reconciliation Australia’s RAP RISE (Reflect, Innovate, Stretch, Elevate) framework, building on the work done since Serco’s first RAP in 2017.

Serco Asia Pacific CEO, Andrew Head, said this is not just a plan; it is a commitment to building bridges, fostering understanding, and creating a workplace where everyone feels valued and heard.

“At Serco, we recognise the importance of reconciliation and are committed to fostering an environment where it is not just a concept but a lived reality,” Andrew said.

Since our first RAP was launched in 2017, Serco has made significant strides in strengthening First Nations peoples’ engagement and participation. Some of our more recent initiatives include:

  • Collaborating with the Prince’s Trust, the Sea Heritage Foundation, and New South Wales TAFE to create career paths for First Nations individuals in the maritime sector.
  • Forming a partnership with the Northern Territory Indigenous Business Network to sponsor events focused on contracting opportunities for First Nations businesses in the Defence industry.
  • Establishing 'Kanyini,' a virtual First Nations Colleague Community network which meets regularly to discuss relevant issues and support each other.
  • Developing First Nations units and educational initiatives within our Justice sites, co-designed with inmates and community Elders to focus on successful rehabilitation and reintegration outcomes.

Andrew Bartha, National Manager Indigenous Affairs and Connection said receiving the RAP Stretch status is a monumental step in strengthening Serco’s principles of inclusivity and diversity, “Our continued vision for reconciliation is equality for First Nations peoples; where cultural protection is embedded within our service delivery through supporting our customers, clients and the communities we serve throughout Australia.”
