- A journey from Navy to Serco – Clint’s story

As we acknowledge ANZAC Day, we reflect on the sacrifices made by those who served and continue to serve in the defence of our nations.
Clint Williams, Serco’s New Zealand Defence Relationship Manager, embodies the spirit of dedication and service that ANZAC Day honours. Transitioning from a distinguished career in the Royal New Zealand Navy to a pivotal role at Serco, Clint's journey is a testament to the enduring values of commitment and care that ANZAC Day represents.
Clint spent his entire working life in the Navy, holding various positions across different countries. His responsibilities ranged from training and recruitment to project management, capability delivery, and operational deployments, including a six-month peacekeeping mission in the Middle East. "This extensive experience laid a strong foundation for my current role at Serco," Clint shares, "where I continue to support the Defence community."
Drawn to the Defence Industry and specifically to Serco, Clint wanted a change from life in uniform but was not ready to stop contributing to New Zealand's safety and prosperity. "A role with Serco allowed me to do that," he explains. Serco's commitment to supporting veterans and reservists made it an ideal place for Clint to continue his service in a new capacity.
Clint's days are highly variable, and this dynamic role allows Clint to stay connected to the Defence community and continue making a difference. He enjoys working with great people at Serco, including employees, customers, and partners in New Zealand. "Spending my days interacting with great humans makes my job enjoyable," Clint says.
Clint is most proud of the support provided to the Ministry of Defence with Serco's technical staff. "The work we are doing is directly supporting the continued output of naval capability, and I know that our work is valued by those who still serve at sea." This pride in his work underscores the importance of Serco's mission to impact a better future for the defence community.
For Clint, Serco’s purpose of 'Impact a better future' means doing meaningful things that contribute to a higher purpose. In his case, this means contributing to the safety and prosperity of New Zealand by always striving to provide customers with what they need and seeking solutions to their challenges. This commitment to making a positive impact is at the heart of Serco's support for veterans and their families.
As a veteran, ANZAC Day holds significant meaning for Clint. "It’s not in acknowledging my own service, but in acknowledging those who served before me and paid the ultimate price for the peace that I have enjoyed so far in my life." ANZAC Day is a reminder to appreciate what we have and pay respects to those who fought for it.
Serco provides excellent support to its veteran and reserve communities, acknowledging and appreciating their service and allowing them to continue contributing through the Reserve forces. Clint advises transitioning defence personnel to be kind to themselves, take time to examine their options, and keep the door open for a possible return to life in uniform. His final thought, "He heramana ahau – I am a sailor," encapsulates Clint's enduring identity and commitment to service, both in and out of uniform.
