We are proud to introduce you Brenda, Leith, Erica, Jessie, Camilla, and Molly who are part of the Serco Community Services health team bridging the gap in healthcare access across Australia and share what this year’s International Nurses Day theme, Our Nurses. Our Future. Caring for nurses strengthens economies," means to them.
Brenda Autufuga – Enrolled Nurse, WA Health
Brenda is committed to impacting a better future by providing essential care in regional and remote settings. Brenda who finds deep meaning in her work shared how International Nurses Day is significant to her, with this year’s theme highlighting the crucial role nurses play in healthcare and people recognising the selfless contribution of nurses.
“We are like the backbone; the nurses are needed, and we are there to care for everybody.”
Brenda's travelling nursing career has taken her to places across WA such as Coral Bay, New Norcia and Exmouth with her most recent posting in Moora where she has enjoyed bonding with the community. Most importantly though Brenda believes relocating to these far-reaching communities and using her clinical skills in regional and remote settings is vital to allowing everyone access to the best healthcare possible.
Leith Lawless - Team Leader, Telehealth
As a trained nurse with more than 40 years’ experience, Leith joined Serco with more than 14-years’ experience in telehealth following her transition from 18 years in Neonatal Intensive Care. This year’s theme is significant to Leith as it underscores her work in delivering compassionate care and contributing to the strength of communities. Leith is committed to creating an environment where nurses feel valued and supported, advocating for continuous professional development. She believes that caring for nurses builds a stronger, more sustainable future for everyone.
“This is a is a powerful reminder that strong healthcare systems are built on the foundation of a well-supported nursing workforce. When we care for our nurses, we create a stronger, more sustainable future for everyone.”
As a dedicated nurse with over a decade of experience in community services, Leith has witnessed the transformative impact of digital systems on patient care and is passionate about enhancing patient access and clinical efficiency. She values mentorship and support and believes that her team are leading the way in providing healthcare access to specialists and often hard to access services, working closely with patients in rural or underserved areas. Leith’s transition to telehealth has brought her clinical expertise into a new and evolving area of healthcare. It highlights her commitment to bridging gaps in healthcare access and not only meeting immediate patient needs but also contributing to a more equitable healthcare system.
Erica MacFarlane - Team Leader, Clinical Support Nurse, Telehealth
Erica is a dedicated nurse who values the importance of self-care and empowerment in her profession. International Nurses Day is significant to her as it highlights the need for nurses to work in environments free from abuse and disrespect. This year’s theme resonates with Erica, as she believes that nurses deserve to be valued and respected. She advocates for a supportive workplace that prioritises both patient care and the well-being of nurses.
“Everyone will need the care of a nurse at some point in their lifetime - you deserve to have a nurse who is valued, respected, and proud of the empowerment they can provide for you as we support our clients through their healthcare journey.”
Erica's commitment to nursing shines through the diverse roles and responsibilities she has held throughout her career including educational leadership roles, travel nursing opportunities and various inpatient, acute, outpatient, and community work. She is excited to see the way Serco supports healthcare innovation and evolving to meet the needs of patients and clients which Erica believes impacts a healthier future for everyone.
Jessie Mawer - Enrolled Nurse, WA Health
For Jessie, this year’s International Nurses Day theme signifies a long-awaited recognition of the daily efforts of nurses. She believes that caring for nurses is essential for strengthening both the economy and the healthcare system. Jessie feels that by finally listening to the needs of nurses, we can ensure better support, job satisfaction, and overall healthcare outcomes.
“Caring for our nurses can only strengthen the economy and therefore our Health system.”
Jessie loves being a nurse because it allows her to help people in need and continuously learn new skills especially in the remote communities in Western Australia that she is supporting. Starting her nursing career seven years ago, straight out of TAFE, Jessie has since worked her way up through various roles, including emergency departments and is now focused on travel nursing. The flexibility and new locations that come with travel nursing are what led her to Serco, and she appreciates the innovation and new techniques that support her providing the best level of care to her patients.
Camilla Neary - Clinical Operations Manager, Telehealth
Camilla values International Nurses Day as it underscores the essential role nurses play in healthcare across the world. For her, this year's theme highlights the importance of supporting and investing in nurses. Camilla believes that when nurses are valued and provided with the necessary resources, patient outcomes improve, workplace satisfaction increases, and healthcare services become more efficient. Through her work in Telehealth, she sees how empowering nurses leads to better care and a stronger, healthier workforce.

Starting her career as a registered nurse in 2005, Camilla has extensive experience in emergency care across the UK and Australia. Transitioning to Telehealth Nursing, has allowed Camilla to support improved patient access and reduced emergency department pressures. Camilla finds great satisfaction in her role, knowing that her work helps individuals access timely, appropriate care and contributes to a stronger healthcare system. As Clinical Operations Manager for Serco, she leads and supports Telehealth nurses, ensuring high-quality service delivery and ensuring operational excellence, and is proud to contribute to a system that evolves to meet the needs of the community.
Molly Panagopoulos - Clinical Nurse, WA Health
For Molly, this year’s International Nurses Day theme is a call for recognition and action. She hopes the community and government will take notice of nurses' vital roles. Molly believes that investing in the future of nursing and encouraging more people to join the profession is crucial.
“Nurses are important, and their voices need to be heard. Go nurses!”
Molly’s dedication to remote nursing was inspired by a university lecturer and she immediately knew this was where she was meant to be. The role she plays at Serco as part of the WA Health Team is one of the things Molly thrives on due to the diversity - ranging from handling everything from injuries to mental health issues. She values Serco's supportive structure and takes pride in maintaining high standards. Molly's commitment to continuous learning and her passion for nursing make her an invaluable asset to the community and Serco.
