Serco New Zealand partners with Sysdoc to advance next-generation Defence training

With a strong track record supporting defence organisations, including award-winning work with the Royal New Zealand Navy, Serco New Zealand is pleased to formalise a Memorandum of Understanding with Sysdoc, bringing together expertise in business transformation, learning innovation and digital capability.
Founded in Aotearoa New Zealand in 1986, Sysdoc has demonstrated how effective learning design can transform training, making it more engaging, practical and aligned to real-world operational demands.
Specialising in designing and delivering modern learning solutions, digital experiences and organisational transformation programs that help organisations adapt, Sysdoc focus on upskilling personnel to perform in rapidly changing environments. Their expertise spans blended and digital learning, knowledge management, and data-driven capability development. enabling organisations to build sustainable, future-ready workforces.
Rewi Thompson, Contract Manager – Training Services, Serco New Zealand, said this partnership sees Sysdoc bringing a deep understanding of how to transform learning into real capability.
“By combining their innovation in digital learning with our operational training expertise, we’re creating opportunities to grow Defence capability in New Zealand, and extend that impact into international markets,” he said.
Through this MOU, Serco and Sysdoc will explore next-generation defence training in New Zealand, combining immersive learning, digital platforms and human-centred design. This includes the shift toward blended and scenario-based learning, where training is continuous, adaptive and personalised to each learner.
In New Zealand, defence training is being shaped by integrated learning ecosystems, combining digital platforms, data and operational context to build capability faster, support NZDF outcomes, and create opportunities for New Zealand businesses to grow and lead into the future.
