Clarence Correctional Centre welcomes New Four-Legged Team Member

Our team at Clarence Correctional centre have welcomed a new four-legged colleague - Helen the black Labrador.

Trained by Assistance Dogs Australia as a Facility Support Dog, two-year-old Helen, is the first ever Facility Support Dog to be placed inside a NSW correctional centre.

Justice and Immigration Managing Director Michael Strickland said he is delighted the long-standing relationship between Serco and Assistance Dogs Australia will continue through this new initiative at Clarence Correctional Centre.

“Helen is a welcome addition to our team, and we are pleased to grow our partnership with Assistance Dogs Australia that has been in place for more than 10 years,” Mr Strickland says.

"Research has shown that inmates who were supported by our previous Pups in Prison Program in Queensland experienced significant improvements in relationship skills and mental health. This is something we look forward to seeing with the work Helen will be doing at Clarence Correctional Centre."

We are proud to partner with Assistance Dogs Australia and look forward to working together on future programs to support positive outcomes for inmates and give back to the community.
