Serco's training team members are all former service men and women who have served with the Royal Australian Navy, the Royal New Zealand Navy or the Royal Navy. Their collective experience and enthusiasm for delivering premier training, mentoring and support to Maritime Warfare Officer Course students, and forward-leaning innovation ensures Maritime Warfare Officers graduate with the mission critical skills needed to fight and win at sea.

We recently welcomed four new international instructors to the HMAS Watson team, with nearly 50 years of combined military experience. These highly experienced individuals assist the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) in training and developing the Maritime Warfare Officers Course at the RAN’s bridge simulators.

Tom who joined Serco after serving in the Royal Navy as a Nuclear Submarine Navigator in Scotland, before relocating to Australia. Tom brings valuable expertise in submarine navigation to the team.

"Teaching warfare as a Senior Maritime Warfare Instructor at Serco is a fantastic opportunity which enables me to impart my knowledge and skills to the next generation of Maritime Warfare Officers, ensuring they are prepared to protect our maritime interests with utmost efficiency and precision."

Brent joined the team from Auckland, New Zealand, where he was a Major Fleet Unit Navigating Officer. Brent brings a depth of experience on both Frigates and Offshore Patrol Vessels to Serco’s professional services.

"It is a fulfilling feeling to work for a company that allows me to effectively employ the specialist skills developed over my military career."

Prior to leaving the Royal New Zealand Navy, Fletch was the Commanding Officer of HMNZS Taupo.

"It's been great to join Serco and keep working in a military environment in an exciting profession, without the added stresses that come with being an active serving member."

Jono who brings nearly 20 years of experience in naval operations to the team. After spending a year on HMS Argyll as the Operations Officer in the UK and returning to New Zealand to take up the role of Lead Planner for Global Maritime Operations, Jono made the decision to relocate to Australia.

"Teaching warfare as a Senior Maritime Warfare Instructor at Serco is an opportunity to foster a culture of excellence, professionalism, and resilience within the RAN."
