The world is facing a climate emergency. There’s so much to be done. And we’re ready to roll up our sleeves to help make it happen.
At Serco, we’re committed to taking action to reduce the impact we have on the environment, focusing on carbon and climate, resource efficiency and environmental protection. These three pillars are fundamental to our sustainability strategy.
And when it comes to the environment, we know that from little things big things grow. Such is the case with the Serco-operated Clarence Correctional Centre, where the Facilities Management team is working towards becoming one of the most innovative and environmentally friendly prisons on the planet.
To do this, the Facilities Management team continuously look for ways to reduce the consumption of energy, optimise the use of assets, reclaim valuable resources, and push the operation of infrastructure towards carbon neutrality.
Ahead of the purpose-built centre opening in 2020, the Facilities Management team worked with the builders to implement artificial lighting techniques that modulate in balance with the natural daylight, saving 1,000mWh per year and extending the life of every light fitting.
In partnership with the Asset Institute and the Queensland University of Technology, our trades work with researchers and industry specialists to ensure every decision made, optimises and extends the use of every asset.
Through investing in research and innovation for smart infrastructure we are developing best practice solutions through scientific analysis to optimise resources and push our operations towards carbon neutrality.
The Facilities Management team understands that environmental protection relies on the preservation of natural resources and is developing practices for the reclamation of waste water and the diversion of biosolids for environmental and agricultural purposes.
The time for action on climate and environmental issues is now – for both individuals and businesses. At Serco, we’re not just talking about change. We’re working hard to make it a reality. And we’re excited by the opportunity to create a cleaner, greener world for our future generations.
