Partnerships and achievements

At Serco we recognise that partnerships, with leading organisations who provide both resources and expertise, support us to continuously improve and evolve our approach to colleagues’ inclusion and experience.

In 2017 we joined Inclusive Employers, the UK’s first and leading membership organisation for employers looking to build inclusive workplaces. In 2021 Serco was acknowledged with Silver status in recognition of the progress made and the programs in place to support inclusion.

Inclusive Employers - experts in diversity and inclusion

In 2017 we began our partnership with everywoman, one of the world’s largest network and learning platform for women and men in business. This partnership gives colleagues (male and female) access to an online portal where they can find a wealth of personal development tools which are intended to support the challenges faced at all levels of business.

Joining is easy and free for all colleagues – it does not require a Serco email address and the app can be downloaded on a personal phone.

Business in the Community (BITC) are leading a movement to create a fair and sustainable world in which to live and work. BITC’s Race at Work 2018: The Scorecard Report was published one year after the McGregor-Smith Review. It looked at how UK employers were performing against the recommendations outlined in the review. The findings led Business in the Community (BITC) to create the Race at Work Charter, five calls to action for organisations committed to improving equality of opportunity in the workplace. In 2021 the Charter was expanded to include allyship and inclusive supply chain commitments.

We’re a Disability Confident Leader employer and are committed to equal opportunities. This is the highest level of disability confidence in the UK and demonstrates we have been assessed by a third party who has recognised our ability to recruit, retain and develop people with disabilities.

The Valuable 500’s mission is to use the power of business to drive lasting change for the 1.3b people around the world, living with a disability. Serco’s CEO has signed up to the following pledge:

At Serco, we are committed to removing barriers and changing perceptions about disabilities, impairments and health conditions.  We celebrate uniqueness and ensure that every employee is recognised for their performance and potential.

PurpleSpace is the world’s only networking and professional development hub for disabled employees, network and resource group leaders and allies from all sectors and trades. They are a small social business with a big mission:

"To make it easier for employees to navigate the experience of ill health, disability or the experience of an accident or injury, at the same time as flourishing at work."

We are a Stonewall Diversity Champion and have participated in the Stonewall Workplace Equality Index. This has given us a detailed assessment of how LGBT+ inclusive we are and how we compare to other UK employers. From this we have been able to make our policies and processes more inclusive, provide more support for colleagues who are transitioning at work, and introduce gender identity and sexual orientation personal data fields to better understand our workforce.
