Accessibility

We want everyone who visits the Serco.com website to feel welcome and find the experience rewarding.

What are we doing?

To help us make the Serco.com website a positive place for everyone, we've been using the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible for people with disabilities, and user friendly for everyone.

The guidelines have three levels of accessibility (A, AA and AAA). We’ve chosen Level AA as the target for the Serco.com website.

How are we doing?

We're working hard to achieve our goal of Level AA accessibility, but we realise there are some areas that still need improving. The following information explains what we're doing to make that happen.

1.2.4: Captions

Currently we have not included captions on video content, we plan to rectify this by the end of Q1 2018 and will add captions on all new content.

1.2.5: Audio Description

Currently we don't provide this and will be looking at external support to understand how we can achieve this where necessary.

3.1.1: Language of Page

Apologies for the technical language used here. The site requires a slight repair to ensure for HTML documents we add the lang attribute and a valid ISO-639-1 two letter language code to the opening HTML element. In addition, for XHTML documents we need to add both the lang and xmllang attributes with a valid ISO-639-1 two letter language code to the opening HTML element. This will be resolved by the end of Q1 2018.

1.4.1: Use of Color

Based on our testing we will look to replace our i elements with em or strong to make clearer. We set a minimum accessibility standard of ‘AA’ for screen readability. This will be resolved by the end of Q1 2018.

1.3.1: Info and Relationships

Again apologies for the technical language, we have identified a requirement around labelling. Repair work required: Add a label element that surrounds the control's label. Set the for attribute on the label element to the same value as the id attribute of the control. And/or add a title attribute to the input element. And/or create a label element that contains the input element. Also, add text to the input element's associated label that describes the purpose or function of the control. We are looking into this and will resolve as soon as possible.

1.1.1: Non-text Content

We are currently running through the website ensuring that all non-text content has an alternative. This is largely on images used to compliment media releases. We plan to complete this by the end of Q2 2018.

We test the website on a quarterly basis against the WCAG 2.0 guidelines.

This accessibility statement was updated on 6th December 2017.
