Saudi Railway Company

Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

February 2015 - March 2021

Serco was the lead in a partnership with Freightliner UK and Network Rail Consulting. We provided the regional and passenger business unit experience, as well as best practice from the United Kingdom. Serco provided a plethora of services, split into two packages; the first was passenger and freight services and the second was infrastructure services. This included delivery of technical content to Saudi Railway Company (SAR), which incorporated the establishment, development and implementation of commercial, operational and safety processes and procedures.

Serco provided technical assistance, which included performing certain interim management services to the expanding freight network. We also delivered training and transfered knowledge to the client organisation. Serco delivered commercial operating models, wherein we defined and delivered commercial, marketing, pricing and customer experience strategies, including delivery of railway bylaws and support to the Transport General Authority. Last but not least, Serco delivered new rolling stock, including KSA’s first sleeper and car transportation on rail. By leveraging our expertise, we delivered successful training programmes for Saudi nationals, enabling them to become proficient in all areas of station and on-board services.

“Serco and its consortium partners have been an indispensable resource during the start-up phase of the North-South Railway and delivered specialist services needed by SAR throughout the last 6 years.”
