DLR End of Contract Farewell

Serco is saying goodbye on Sunday to the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) as it hands over the service to a new operator after 17 very successful years that has seen the service go from strength to strength. 

During this time the DLR has carried over one billion passengers and achieved award-winning improvements in service reliability and customer satisfaction. Commenting, David Stretch Serco's Managing Director of Transport, said: "It's with a mixture of pride and sadness that we say farewell to the DLR.  I want to say a huge 'Thank You' to the Serco team at DLR and I'm immensely grateful to each and every one of them for all the work that they have put in to make the railway the outstanding success it is today.  They have provided a fantastic service to the people of London since we started 17 years ago."

Serco has been operating the DLR since 1997 under two consecutive franchises. It is the busiest light railway in the UK carrying around 100 million passengers each year.  In 2012 Serco was named 'Light Rail Operator of the Year' and the DLR carried 7.2 million passengers during the Olympic Games, up by over 100% on normal levels.  Following an outstanding Olympics' performance, the contract has gone from strength to strength, and this year the DLR has achieved its highest ever scores for service performance and customer satisfaction in its 26-year history with trains regularly running at over 99% reliability.
