Independent Monitoring Board describes HMP Ashfield as a ‘high performing prison’

Published: 15 Nov 2018

In its latest annual report the Independent Monitoring Board (IMB) says that HMP Ashfield, which is managed by Serco on behalf of the Ministry of Justice, continues to be a very well run prison which has continued to improve over the last twelve months.

The IMB praises the strong leadership and culture of continuous improvement at the prison and says that this has resulted in a high performing prison where the prisoners’ wellbeing and safety are very effectively managed.

The IMB goes on to say that prisoners at HMP Ashfield receive fair treatment and that the prison continues to be a very safe and secure prison where prisoners are treated with respect, decency and humanity. In fulfilling its role as a specialist training and treatment prison providing education, programmes, training and purposeful activity Ashfield performs very well.

Martin Jones Serco’s Interim contract Director at the Prison said: “We are very proud of this report.  It reflects the enormous amount of hard work that has been put in by all the staff at Ashfield and their dedication and professionalism.

“We also recognise that there are a number of challenges for the prison and we will continue to work hard to address these and ensure that the prison goes from strength to strength.”
