- Waste Collection Guarantee Launched to Canterbury Residents
Serco has today launched the Waste Collection Guarantee (WCG) scheme to residents served by Canterbury City Council. The scheme is part of Serco's commitment to provide residents with a regular and reliable waste and recycling service. Under this innovative scheme, whenever it misses a bin collection, Serco has committed to donate the cost of the collection to one of three specially selected charitable projects that were announced in October: Umbrella Centre of Herne Bay and Whitstable Umbrella Community Centre both of which are mental health and wellbeing charities, together with homelessness charity Porchlight. All three charities are set to receive £5,000 p.a. for the next two years and this donation will be topped up if Serco misses any bin collections.
The WCG scheme was launched at a special event held at Kent County Cricket Club. Representatives of the three charities were presented with a commemorative plaque and a giant cheque representing the first year's £5,000 donation they each will receive.
The scheme starts immediately and residents can sign up right now by going online to Canterbury City Council's website and completing the e-form and selecting one of the three WCG charities at . Alternatively, residents can call the Serco helpdesk on 0800 031 9091. Residents must be registered to the WCG scheme for Serco to be able to allocate the missed bin refunds to the preferred good cause.
Residents can also 'Like' the newly launched Canterbury Waste Collection Guarantee Facebook Page to keep up to date with the scheme and receive regular information, advice and WCG charity updates via their Facebook newsfeed.
Geoff Dunne, Contract Manager for Serco Canterbury, said: 'I'm thrilled to launch the Waste Collection Guarantee in Canterbury today. This scheme is the first of its type and it demonstrates Serco's commitment to its customers. If we fall short on our promise on delivering this vital service to the local community, we will make sure we increase our support to the three local charities who are instrumental in providing care to those in need. Serco has a long history of working with local communities and together with our pledge to deliver on our service promise, we look forward to making a difference."
