- Magnus Conn gets on board with Caledonian Sleeper
Magnus Conn has joined Serco Caledonian Sleeper as Director for the New Trains programme where he will lead the introduction of the new rolling stock to the overnight rail service in 2018.
With almost 30 years’ experience in the industry, Magnus, a chartered mechanical engineer, arrives at Caledonian Sleeper from SNC Lavalin and brings a wealth of rolling stock, new trains and large projects experience.
Peter Strachan, Managing Director for Caledonian Sleeper said: “I’m delighted to welcome Magnus to the team and to have him spearhead the New Trains programme over the next two years. I look forward to working with him and to the knowledge and vast industry experience he will bring to such an exciting phase in the history of the Caledonian Sleeper.”
The new trains, which were unveiled to Transport Minister Humza Yousaf MSP on 30 June this year, are currently being manufactured by CAF in Spain and will feature double room accommodation, a first in the UK.
En-suite toilet and showers in a number of rooms along with a key card entry system, more accessible rooms and reclining seats, upgraded panels for phone and gadget charging and wifi will further add to the overall hotel-style experience. The lounge car will also be upgraded with more seating options and social space to enjoy the locally-sourced produce in the on board menu.
Magnus said of his appointment: “I’m greatly looking forward to leading this transformational team at Caledonian Sleeper and to the challenge of introducing the new rolling stock to such a well-renowned service.
“There have already been some wonderful developments in the Caledonian Sleeper service since April 2015 but this project will be on another level; bringing a world class rail journey experience to the UK and one I am extremely proud and excited to now be a part of.”
