- NorthLink Ferries honoured at national travel awards
NorthLink Ferries, managed and operated by Serco on behalf of Transport Scotland, has scooped a national award at this year’s Guardian and Observer Travel Awards.
Held in Scotland’s capital on Friday 3 March, the ferry operator was awarded the title of ‘Best Ferry’ at the annual ceremony, which celebrates the best in travel and tourism services across the world.
Now in its 28th year, the national awards are separated into a range of 15 categories, with the public as well as the newspapers’ editorial teams voting for their top travel operators, accommodation providers and destinations.
Angus Cockburn, Serco’s group chief financial officer said: “This award demonstrates how Serco brings real improvements in quality to a vital lifeline ferry service on which thousands of people, businesses and tourists depend.
“Today Serco already has a sizeable presence in Scotland, in terms of the size of our operations, the range of vital operations we manage and the 2,800 people we employ, who are all dedicated to ensuring the very best possible services for every one of our customers.”
Speaking of the award, Stuart Garrett, managing director of NorthLink Ferries, said: “We are extremely honoured to have received this prestigious national accolade. We’d like to thank everyone for their ongoing support and to those who voted for us. The award not only recognises NorthLink Ferries as ferry operator of choice, but helps to showcase Scotland, and indeed the Northern Isles, as an exciting UK tourism destination.”
