Independent Monitoring Board praises improvements at HMP Dovegate

Published: 9 Feb 2018

In its latest report published today, the Independent Monitoring Board (IMB) says that HMP Dovegate has ‘seen significant positive progress’ over the past year and the prison ‘appears to be settled and reasonably calm’.

The report goes on to say that the prison, managed and operated by Serco on behalf of the Ministry of Justice, has seen staffing levels, sickness and absence, prisoner on prisoner and prisoner on staff assaults all buck the national trend while major changes such as the smoking ban have been completed successfully.

John Hewitson, Serco’s Contract Director at HMP Dovegate said: “I’m delighted that the improvements that we have made at the prison have been recognised by the IMB.  They have been achieved thanks to the hard work, determination and professionalism of all the staff at Dovegate and I am very proud of everyone who works here.  Of course as the IMB points out there is more to do and we will continue our efforts throughout this year.”
