Bidding & Strategic Growth: Hook
Winning good business is key at Serco - and to be the best managed business in our sector its important we run contracts that are profitable and sustainable. As a Graduate working within our Growth function you’ll be situated in our Head Office in Hook. Here, you'll get full exposure to the Serco business lifecycle.
The areas you’ll experience as part of this role may include:
- Opportunity identification, bid preparation and tendering
- Commercial analytics including pricing models, solution input and sensitivity modelling
- Business strategy planning
- Project management including transition planning and the implementation of contracts
As you build your skills across this function, we’ll be supporting you with a wide range of training and development opportunities. You’ll also enrol on either an Association for Project Management (APM) or Association of Bid & Proposal Management Professionals (APMP) qualification depending on your career focus and interest.
Once you complete the programme you’ll be well prepared to take a role in our Growth Function which plays to your strengths and sets you up for a fantastic career.
You won’t need a specific degree discipline to join this programme, but it would suit those with strong business management acumen, along with excellent attention to detail.
HR - Generalist: Hook
Our Hook office is a busy HR shared service centre that is home to many of our HR functions - and on this programme you’ll get to experience a range of diverse and interesting rotations, which may include:
- HR Generalist/Business Partnering
- Colleague Experience and Engagement
- Talent Development
- Heath & Wellbeing
This programme will see you working with a variety of internal stakeholders, so you’ll need to be driven, great with people, and agile minded. And as you build your people skills we’ll be supporting you with a wide range of training and development opportunities.
To experience the true employee lifecycle experience during your two year placement we will ensure you have exposure to all areas of HR. And once you complete the programme you’ll be well prepared to take a role HR which plays to your strengths and sets you up for a fantastic career.
Data Analytics: Solihull
With a business as geographically spread as ours it takes a great MI & Analytics team to provide the accurate data that drives decision making. As a graduate working in our Data Reporting and Analytics Services, you’ll gain exposure and understanding of how analytics enables performance management across a large corporate organisation – as well as developing the hands-on skills you’ll need to thrive in your career.
You’ll be helping to deliver operational reporting services and be getting involved in reporting and analytics for both our internal functions (such as HR, IT, Fleet, Procurement and Finance) and our front-line contracts. You’ll also gain experience in data engineering and product development, using tools such as Microsoft Synapse and Power BI, and working in languages like SQL and DAX.
After the two years are up you’ll be ready to take on a role within Data Reporting and Analytics such as a Data Engineering Developer or Senior Analyst.
You don’t need to have a STEM based degree for this programme but you’ll certainly need an aptitude for numbers and the technical side of the role.
Ethics & Compliance: Hook
Our head office in Hook is home to many of our Group functions - and on this programme you’ll get to work closely with our Director of Business Compliance and Ethics to gain experience on a range of interesting projects and with a variety of teams including Compliance Assurance, Risk and Internal Audit.
As you immerse yourself into the world of Ethics and Compliance and get the exposure that comes with working for a globally operating business, we’ll be supporting you with a wide range of training and development opportunities.
You’ll be enrolled on a Certified Compliance & Ethics Profession International (CCEP-I) course, an industry recognised qualification to complement your programme - and when you’re ready we’ll also work with you to identify other qualifications you’ll need to further your career with us.
And once you complete the programme you’ll be well prepared to take a role within Ethics & Compliance which plays to your strengths and sets you up for a fantastic career.
This programme is designed for those seeking a career within Finance and who wish to gain broad exposure within the Finance function of a complex FTSE 250 global business.
Unlike our other graduate roles, our Finance programme is unique in that it takes place over three rather than two years. Not only will this allow you to truly experience the different aspects of working in Finance, it will also give you ample time to gain the professional finance qualifications you need to launch your Finance career.
The 5 key placements within the programme are:
- MyFinance: Here you’ll gain understanding of how our Finance Shared Services operates, with exposure to core finance processes and project management
- Commercial (UK&E Finance): Here you’ll learn the approaches and techniques to Financial Modelling - developing an awareness of risk and reward balance in a competitive bidding environment. You’ll get experience and visibility of contracts and legal aspects to be considered throughout bids
- Leisure (UK&E Business Sector): You’ll gain understanding of the full end to end process of how finance works at a contract level, having full exposure to the operational side of the business
- Internal Audit: You’ll understand the role of the function and how it operates within Serco. You’ll gain a broader understanding of risk management framework as well as working with the business at a global level
- Group reporting and planning: You’ll understand how the group function operates from both an internal and external reporting perspective including budgeting and forecasting.
Alongside all the experience and on the job development you’ll receive, you’ll also undertake the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) accountancy qualification.
Growth & Technology: Hook or London
In order to bid-for and win new business we need to have great tools and IT applications to help us manage and execute the process. And helping to facilitate that technology is our Sales Tooling team.
Whilst the team is small, the scope and exposure of the role is huge as you’ll be acting as a conduit between our bidding and IT teams - and working with stakeholders across the business on vital new business projects. Using the knowledge and feedback gained, you’ll assist with the sales tooling roadmap, working to implement it, communicating the changes, and then ensuring teams get the training and support they need to use it.
This programme provides the best of both worlds, helping you to understand new business and sales, whilst also managing application lifecycles. Alongside this broad experience you’ll also be enjoying all the development the Graduate Programme has to offer – and when you’re ready we’ll work with you to identify further qualifications you’ll need to further your career with us.
Governance, Legal, Risk, Insurance and Assurance: Hook and London
If you're looking for a graduate programme with variety then look no further. You’ll get to work closely with our Directors of Enterprise Risk and Insurance, Deputy General Counsel and Deputy Company Secretary to gain experience on a range of interesting projects. This will involve you spending time with a number of different departments, including:
- Company Secretary
- Internal Audit.
Working with such a variety of teams comes with a high level of exposure - and once its completed you'll be well aquainted with the key areas of Governance, Legal, Risk, Insurance and Assurance.
Throughout the programme we'll be supporting you with a wide range of training, development, and supplementary qualifications so that you’ll be well prepared to take a role that plays to your strengths and sets you up for a fantastic career.
Whilst the majority of the teams are based in Hook you'll also be expected to spend some time in our London office too.
