What Serco can offer you

Serco is a FTSE 250 company with over 400 sites and 30,000 people in the UK alone. And whilst not everyone has heard of us, the services we provide touch the lives of millions of people every year - from the people who use the train and ferry services we run, to the hospitals we support, the prisons we run, to our network of leisure centre contracts, and the household bins we empty. Our contact centres provide customer service on behalf of many of our central and local government clients.

With a supportive team around you, you will be encouraged to use your initiative, take on important responsibilities and gain practical operational experience working at the frontline on our contracts or within our busy functional teams.

Meaningful and vital work

The services we provide are often of critical importance to the communities and nations that we serve.  The Covid-19 pandemic has shown the vital role our people have not just day to day but in times of crisis. Something that has been recognised by many of our clients. Our graduates have been heavily involved at this critical time.

So not only will you be doing interesting work that matters you’ll also be engaged in the real and pressing challenges of delivering those services. We won’t hold your hand either, you’ll have the autonomy and tools to innovate and make a personal impact on your fast-track to a management or functional career

A world of opportunities

As part of being in a big company your next challenge will always be around the corner - or it could be further afield in Europe, the Middle East, Asia Pacific or the Americas. We’re also big on development. You’ll benefit from a range of training programmes on topics such as Project Management, Process Improvement, Change Management and People Management. We keep our graduate cohort small so that you get the time, attention and development that your skills deserve.

Great people

Every company claims to have great people – and we’re no different! But what unites us as a business is our shared values and a genuine interest in delivering public services. You’ll have early and ongoing exposure to our senior team and to experienced and caring colleagues, giving you the best chance to learn and succeed

Rewards and benefits

You’ll receive an annual salary of £27,000 for the duration of the programme along with an annual holiday entitlement of 25 days plus bank holidays.

Your physical, mental and social wellbeing is important and together, we have a joint responsibility for health and wellbeing at work. At the same time, we value your diversity and individuality and want to support your life choices whilst rewarding you for your commitment to Serco. This includes our:

  • Employee Assistance Programme, providing advice, information, services and training to help and support you deal with events and issues in your work and personal life;
  • Salary Sacrifice Cycle to work Scheme
  • Annual Leave Purchase Scheme providing you with the opportunity to purchase up to 5 days additional annual leave through salary sacrifice

Salary sacrifice allows you to exchange part of your monthly gross salary pre-Tax and National Insurance (NI) in return for Serco providing benefits of the same value which means that you pay less Tax and National Insurance (NI) on your reduced pay. Tax and NI is calculated on your gross salary and because your gross salary is reduced you pay less Tax and NI which means you take home more in your net pay after Tax and NI have been deducted.
